NEW HAVEN FOOD AS MEDICINE CONVENING
NHV FAM
Who We Are
Mission
To collaboratively improve health and work to prevent and manage chronic disease by implementing sustainable, community-rooted Food as Medicine programs that reduce food insecurity and promote access for all across the New Haven food system.
Vision
We envision a New Haven where local growers, healthcare organizations, patients, and community members work together to sustain a food system that supports the health of all residents.
Values
At its core, the New Haven Food as Medicine Convening is committed to supporting health equity, sustainability, racial justice, food sovereignty, collaboration between community members and healthcare, trauma-informed care, uplifting BIPOC farmers, and maintaining cultural relevance in all that we do.
Land Acknowledgement and Statement on Racial Equity
We acknowledge that the land on which we gather and work is the traditional and territory of the Quinnipiac people. We honor and recognize their stewardship of this land in the past, present, and future. As a coalition, we acknowledge the historic and ongoing racial injustices in the New Haven community that limit many people’s ability to grow and access healthy food. We are committed to advancing racial equity by ensuring that all voices – especially those of our most marginalized community members – are heard, valued, and centered in our work. Our goal is to build an inclusive Food as Medicine system that actively addresses and dismantles systemic barriers to health and access, promoting justice and opportunity for everyone in our community.
